What is a business license for?
A business license authorizes the firm
- to engage in specific activities and
- is issued by a Thai government department or agency.
Once the firm has been registered with the Ministry of Commerce, the licenses can be requested for.
What business would you get into?
Here is a quick overview of the most common activities that require a licence
Running a bar and restaurant
A food license from the nearby district office is required to open a restaurant. Before an application for a license may be submitted, the location where the food and drinks will be sold must be a fixed place of business. Before the approval is obtained, the government officials will check the premises. Serving liquor will necessitate the acquisition of a separate permission known as a “alcohol license.” The local Excise department issues this permission. In Thailand, the selling of liquor must occur at specific times. These licenses will be provided for one year and will need to be renewed annually by the firm.
Starting a financial services company
Providing financial services through a Thai firm will necessitate a license from the Bank of Thailand. Commercial banks, financing businesses, credit finance companies, asset management firms, and e-payment channel services are among the financial services regulated by the Bank of Thailand.
Finance specialized Institutions that provide services to support government programs that encourage investment and economic growth in Thailand will need to obtain special approval from the Ministry of Finance.
Running an import/export business
Depending on the category of commodities, an import/export company will need specific business licenses to conduct import and export activities.
If the imported items are restricted, certain permissions from Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration may be necessary. This includes bringing into the Kingdom food, medicines, and cosmetics.
Importing electronic equipment such as cellphones would need a permission from Thailand’s National Broadcasting Department.
In most cases, the firm will need to apply for a customs paperless license from the Thai customs department in order to import/export products in its name. To streamline the application procedure and secure permits faster, select a local director to sign on these applications.
Running an employment agency
A recruitment license will be required for employment-related enterprises such as headhunting, staffing and search firms, and employment agencies. The Department of Employment issues this license.
Specific conditions must be met in terms of local directorship and shareholding, as well as office space. The license must be approved after an examination of the office premises. Following the approval of the license, the firm is required to report its recruitment efforts to the Department of Employment.
Operating a travel agency
Before selling tour and travel packages to consumers, a new travel agency must receive a Tourism license from the Tourism Authority of Thailand. With this license, the firm can only participate in tourism-related operations.
Without this permission, organizing tours and packages, as well as booking lodgings and tickets, is completely forbidden. The license is divided into three categories: inbound, outbound, and domestic tourism.
To sign for the tourist license, the firm must have majority Thai ownership and a local director. The local director’s signature authority might be limited to things pertaining exclusively to the tourist license.
Running an educational company
In Thailand, registering an education company needs license and permission from the Ministry of Education or the Department of Social Welfare, depending on the type of education.
There are several important elements to consider when starting a business, including the location of the firm and the legal form of the corporation. The first stage will be to incorporate the firm, and a Thai company structure is the easiest and quickest way to get started.
